How to Use MindRDR

In order to use MindRDR for Glass there are several things you'll need to do. As this is a piece of R&D work it won't be going through the official Glass store.

What you'll need:

  • Google Glass with a working internet connection
  • MindWave Mobile headset
  • A computer to do the installation
  • Your own Twitter account
  • Step 1. Install MindRDR on Glass

  • First download MindRDR and side-loaded it on to your Google Glass
  • There are lots of guides out there on how to side-load apps onto Glass, here are a couple:

  • http://www.glassappsource.com/google-glass-how-to/easy-way-install-apk-google-glass.html
  • Once you've completed this process you should now be able to launch MindRDR from the menu, speak: 'Ok Glass' > 'Mind Reader'

Note that when you first launch MindRDR it will go into QR Code scanning mode before anything else as a authorised Twitter account is required for MindRDR - this will be covered in Step 3.

Step 2. Install the correct Barcode scanner for Glass.

Following the same process you did in Step 1. Download the Barcode Scanner APK here.

Step 3. Authorize MindRDR to use your Twitter account

MindRDR will only use your Twitter account to post photos directly from the MindRDR app. Obviously these posts are triggered by our interpretation of your mind signals so it is not guaranteed to be accurate! Click here to authorise Twitter

Once you've authorised MindRDR with Twitter you'll be re-directed to a page with a QR Code and instructions on how to scan with Glass. Once you've done that continue to Step 4.

Step 4. Connect to your MindWave Mobile device

If you've got this far you'll have MindRDR installed and your Twitter account authorized. The final step is to pair your MindWave mobile device with Glass.

Again there are various techniques for pairing Glass with another wearable bluetooth device. Here is a good guide on the subject: http://www.glassappsource.com/google-glass-how-to/pair-bluetooth-devices-google-glass.html

If "Manage Bluetooth" doesn't appear in the "OK Glass" menu then you can run the command below in terminal to launch the BlueTooth Manager:

    adb shell am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.recursivepenguin.bluetoothmanagerforglass/com.recursivepenguin.bluetoothmanagerforglass.MainActivity
